About YAMLClean
What this is
A YAML cleaner and linter that runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded.
Two tools, and neither is a parser
| Tool | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Clean (home page) | Removes trailing whitespace from every line and blank lines from the ends. | No re-indentation, no key sorting, no quote changes. |
| Linter | Reads the file line by line and flags tabs in indentation, duplicate keys, a missing space after the colon, and unquoted values YAML 1.1 turns into booleans, octal numbers or shortened floats. | It does not parse YAML, so it will not catch every syntax error, and it does not check a document against a schema such as Kubernetes or GitHub Actions. |
The linter looks for mistakes that parse without an error and change your data, because those are the ones nobody sees. A tab fails loudly. mode: 0755 does not.
Use something stronger in CI
yamllint for style and syntax with line numbers, and a schema-aware validator (kubeconform, actionlint) for the file's meaning. This site is for the quick look at a pasted snippet.
